A series of video capsules on university research
École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) is a university specializing in engineering education and applied research.
In a competitive graduate recruitment landscape, ÉTS sought to increase the visibility of its research to attract top students and researchers from Canada and abroad. The goal was to highlight the expertise of its professor-researchers and the real-world impact of their work.
To do so, the institution mandated our team to design and produce a series of interview-based video capsules. Each capsule features a professor-researcher interviewed by a student.
Filming took place on the ÉTS campus, maximizing views of Montréal to showcase both the academic setting and the city’s quality of life, a key factor in university recruitment.
Strong emphasis was placed on editorial development and content clarity. Prior to filming, professor-researchers and student interviewers were prepared to ensure complex scientific topics remained clear, accurate, and accessible. Each interview was filmed twice, allowing the editing process to select the clearest and most effective explanations.
A distinctive visual element was also integrated into the series: a metallic frame in ÉTS colours, used both on set and as a graphic device. This element creates a consistent visual signature and adds rhythm to the capsules.
The project resulted in a series of eight video capsules, each approximately four minutes long, designed and produced for mobile viewing and vertical formats.
The series was widely distributed on ÉTS’s social media platforms and displayed on screens across the campus. The capsules were also used in targeted institutional communications, particularly for graduate recruitment.
The topics explored span a wide range of research areas, including recycled materials for road construction, solutions to improve greenhouse productivity, early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, and software for managing drone swarms.

Filming a capsule from the Research in Focus_Extra series with Alan Carter, professor-researcher in the Department of Construction Engineering at ÉTS. The interview explores approaches to designing more sustainable road infrastructures. A 2 Square Films production, with Michel Désilets and Henri Periers-Denis behind the camera.
What better backdrop than Montréal’s skyline to discuss the design of high-rise buildings better suited to increasingly strong winds? Filming a capsule from the Research in Focus_Extra series with Reda Snaiki, professor-researcher in the Department of Construction Engineering at ÉTS, interviewed by Badr Terjani, a student in Automated Production Engineering.
At 2Square, we believe in the power of partnerships. We're not just committed to helping our customers achieve short-term goals, but to laying the foundations for lasting, mutually beneficial collaboration. Discover other outstanding projects created with the same partner.
In this capsule of the series, Lucas Hof, professor-researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, explores how the structure of moth eyes can inspire new ways to improve solar panel efficiency.
Reda Snaiki, Professor and Researcher in the Department of Construction Engineering, answers questions from Badr Terjani, a student in Automated Manufacturing Engineering. He explains his research project, which aims to improve building design so structures can better withstand high winds—events that are becoming increasingly frequent due to climate change.
Danielle Monfet, professor-researcher in the Department of Construction Engineering, works on solutions to improve the energy performance of agricultural greenhouses.
Sylvie Ratté, professor in the Department of Software and Information Technology Engineering, develops non-invasive technological tools to better detect and monitor the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
