Trade portraits on a large-scale construction site
In 2021, BMNJ Interior Systems, a major player in Quebec’s construction and interior systems industry, was awarded the mandate to deliver the interior structures of the Maestria towers, an iconic project located in the heart of Montreal’s Quartier des spectacles. This exceptional construction site provided a unique opportunity to showcase the expertise of BMNJ’s teams, the diversity of trades involved, and the know-how deployed on a large-scale urban construction site.
The mandate pursued two main objectives:
– to document, in concrete terms, the trades and skills at work on the site;
– to create long-lasting video tools supporting corporate positioning and recruitment.
2 Square Films designed and produced a series of video capsules focused on the company’s key trades, through authentic portraits of skilled workers operating directly on the Maestria construction site.
To bring these portraits to life, the team adopted an immersive documentary approach grounded in the realities of the field. Each capsule combines interviews, action-driven work footage, and site visuals — including, when conditions allowed, striking drone footage captured both outdoors and indoors — all within a coherent and visually compelling treatment.
Production unfolded over more than two and a half years, adapting continuously to the evolution of the site and to the operational constraints inherent to large-scale construction projects.
A total of six “trade” capsules, each approximately two minutes long, were produced. These videos were used as:
– communication and positioning tools for partners and potential clients;
– internal engagement and recruitment tools, highlighting the company’s rigor, expertise, and high standards of excellence.
Despite a production timeline spanning several years and taking place in a demanding operational environment, 2 Square Films ensured visual, narrative, and technical consistency across all deliverables. This mandate demonstrates the team’s ability to operate effectively in complex contexts, combining rigor, flexibility, and adaptability to the constraints of major construction sites.

Director Frédéric Desjardins and cinematographer Gilles Blais lead the crew in the middle of an active construction site. Focused, collaborative, and fully immersed in the environment, the team adapts each shot to the rhythm and realities of the field.
Drone pilot and operator Joël Guilbault navigates the structure to capture dynamic interior footage. A precise and carefully coordinated operation, bringing viewers inside the scale and complexity of the construction site.

Led by André Bilodeau, an experienced layout specialist on the Maestria construction site, this capsule highlights the precision behind a trade essential to interior structural work. Through the perspective of a seasoned veteran, it reveals the critical role layout plays in the success of a large-scale project.
